Charleston #2:
Today's ramble is brought to you by the smells of jasmine & the sea. (As you may recall, I get all sensitive / maudlin about smells when I'm someplace new.) Anyway, today (actually -last Friday) was about the west side of the Charleston peninsula. (Did I mention that my previous was the east side? The French Quarter? This is more the merchant class -as distinct from the older richer planter class. Nice architecture both sides, but one a little more compact and less opulent.)
But I do go on.
While waiting for the buss to takeme to C'town propper. More picturesk thenyou might think. This is off the sideof a roat that might be equivalent to Parker road w/. a little Colorado BOulaivardstrredin. Salt slough, livwe oaks, and Spanichmoss off in the distance.
MUSC the Medical Universityof South Calorlina.
Purple stuff for Veronica. (Got to do a little purple stuff ever' trip.)
This is a city park / wet-land.
The 4 previous are all taken from the middle of an intersection -to give you a feeling of the neighborhood.
An few prety houses. We are not quite to the high-rent destrict, pretty nice ust the same.
An ugly partment building facing Battery park.
The water front across off Battery Park.
Assorted cannons -'cause one can never have too many pix of cannons.
(And they are big on cannons here abouts.)
Cannons and statues dedicated to the sons of the Confederacy.
This is a memorial to Moultree. Mel Gibson's character in The Patriot. Good movie!
Insipid pix of a rich dead guys' pilazza. The waterfront is to the left.
Better pix of the pilazza thing. (Remember -property taxes were basedon the #$ od windows facing the street.)
You see lots of of tiny houses stuck in behind big houses. Like carrage houses -but not.
Now from there, I got tired of beautifull old houses and went Northon King street. Kingis the touristy shopping street and I found an Urban Outfitters store in a partially re-worked old theatre. Lovethiskind'a of urban re-purposinng.
Thisis the actual stage. You can't see it, but them's the upping and downing contraptions theyused to change sceens during a performance.
(Upping and downing do-dads.)
One more house w/ pilazza.
