Charleston #3:

A somewhat uninspired walk yesterday. Pleasent-they all are- but a tad blah, It was also 60 degrees and intermittently gray. The JeffCo small claims clerk called and said it wuz 84 in Golden!?!

So whatwehave seen so far is Charleston down the east side to old-town, and then from the westy side. Yesterday started out riding along w/ Tonia as she had some errands to run and my walk went from the visitor's center, (in the center of the pennensula) to the north.

For some strange reason, this was the first pix I took. See if...

...don't bring up a map you can sort of follow along as I wander.

We begin w/ the ridiculous -an extra-ugly apartment building...

...and take up with the sublime. This is an old (1887) retirement community. 24 identical Romanesque buildings in a lovely park setting. William Enston Homes Worth a click.

The next 6 pix are of Hampden Park. Big place -60 acres. Reminds me a little of Golden Gate Park in SF.

Not telephone poles -them's palm trees in the center.

It occurs to me that I'm not sure if we have jasmine in Colorado, so here is what they look like in full bloom. (I have noted a certain moistness in my schnozz of late. I've always taken the view that I don't suffer from allergies -I might have a mild sensitivity after all.)

Note the bridge in the center / distance....

...'cause this pix is taken from the top of it.

Then we come to the CItadel Military Academy. Interesting place w// as ugly an style of architecture as I've seen lately. (Note the ridiculous apartments above. I suspect that this architect was trying to

As much ANSI love the architecture here abouts, there is one feature the bugs the bejasus out'a me. Not the front of the floor of the piazzas. I know the floor must slant to shed rain, but why-oh-why couldn't they have built a little parapet wall -under the railing- to disguise this fact. Ever' dang house has this odd angle that is bad enough when viewed head on, but from the side is even worse -makes the whole contraption look like it's falling down. And for that matter -given that I got out of the touristy section -there were some old houses that WERE falling down. Some doing so fast enough to be boarded up, and some -w/ poor folks living in them- doing so in a more stately manner.

And we close w/ the obligatory pix for Veronica .
